Why Moro must remain in Ilorin Emirate - Indigenes

- From Ismail Adebayo,Ilorin

A group, Indigenous People of Moro has said the community is an extension of Ilorin Emirate and not part of Oyo Empire.

The group was reacting to a call by youths in Moro Local Government Area of Kwara State that the community must be separated from Ilorin Emirate.

The group, in a statement, said by history, tradition and culture, it was apparently clear that the people of Moro LGA must be loyal and pay their royalty to the Emir of Ilorin.

It said in return the emir must regard Moro as part of his territory when it came to distribution of amenities.

The group said the

first people who migrated from Ilorin Central to engage in farming in Moro formed more than 80 per cent of present Moro LGA.

“In fact, 95 per cent of families in various wards in Moro have their family houses in Ilorin and they believe in Ilorin Emirate Council,’’ the group said.

It thanked the Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji Dr. Ibrahim Sulu Gambari, for the donation of various items to cushion the effects of COVID-19 in the area.
