APC chairman killed in Katsina

- From Habibu Umar Aminu, Katsina

The Chairman of All Progressives Congress (APC) in Batsari Local Government Area of Katsina State, Abdulhamid Sani Ruma, has been reportedly killed in cold blood.

Ruma was said to have travelled to his village, Sabon Garin Dunburawa, to attend to some family matters when some assailants shot him with guns to death.

A source said the assailants came from the neighbouring forest on motorcycles and instantly opened fire, killing him on the spot.

“The deceased left for the village this morning around 9 a.m. from his house here in Batsari town; the village is only 4 kilometres away. He was targeted and shot in the midst of others”, the source added.

His corpse was later taken to the Batsari General Hospital where he was confirmed dead on arrival by medical personnel.

Confirming the incident, the APC Katsina Central Zone Vice Chairman, Mamman Yaro Batsari, said that the chairman was killed by unknown persons, which has thrown the entire town into uncertainty.

“Last year, the bandits killed his brother, and this year, with the arrival of the rainy season, he went to the village to help supervise the sharing of his late brother’s farmlands to rightful inheritors.

“As they were undertaking the duty, the assailants came out from the bush and opened fire and bullets pierced his head and chest,” he said.

“As I am taking to you, his remains have been taken to his residence for burial rites,” he added.

The state police command has not yet issued any statement over the development.
