Katsina District Head killed
The District Head of Yantumaki in Danmusa Local Government Area of Katsina State, Abubakar Atiku Maidabino, was yesterday killed by unknown gunmen at his palace at Yantumaki town.
Local sources said the gunmen on motorbikes attacked the palace at about midnight shooting sporadically and scaring off the villagers.
The gunmen later broke into the palace, killing him on the spot and injuring a security guard, Gambo
Chakau in the process.
The Katsina State Police Command spokesman, SP Gambo Isah, while confirming the incident said that "On 31/05/2020 at about 11:55hrs, bandits in their numbers, armed with AK 47 rifles, attacked the residence of the District Head of Yantumaki, at Yantumaki District of Danmusa LGA of Katsina State, one Alhaji Abu Atiku, aged 60yrs, shot him and his security guard, one Gambo Chakau.”
He said the bandits later escaped into the forest while the victims were taken to Danmusa General Hospital where the district head was confirmed dead while the security guard was admitted and responding to treatment.
Hundreds of sympathisers attended his funeral prayer held at the town, including the Emir of Katsina, Abdulmumin Kabir Usman, Secretary to the State Government, Mustapha Inuwa, and other top government officials, and traditional title holders.
Daily Trust reports that the incident was coming a day after the APC chairman in neighbouring Batsari Local Government Area, Abdulhamid Sani, was similarly killed.
