B/haram: 5 civilians killed, 9 missing in Borno

Five civilians have been killed and 9 others kidnapped in multiple attacks by suspected Boko Haram insurgents who attacked three communitie­s in Borno State on Sunday, local sources said.

It was learnt that the insurgents stormed Kondori village, six kilometers from Jakana in Konduga Local Government Area of the state at night, killing at least 4 persons and razing down the entire village.

According to vigilantes’ source, the invaders came in their dozens and overpowere­d the villagers.

"They killed three persons and four others were seriously injured. One of the injured people gave up today due to severe wounds inflicted upon him by the Boko Haram insurgents. As I am speaking with you, our village has been deserted because they burnt it down," the source said.

In a similar incident, the resident of Jawuri near Caterpilla­r general area of Ngomari Cross of Jere LGA said suspected insurgents sneaked into the community and forcefully took away 10 persons including three girls.

A resident, Mallam Umaru Bukar disclosed that the insurgents later released an aged man on Sunday evening after spending five hours with them.

"We have searched all over the area with the help of hunters. Initially, 10 persons were kidnapped but around 5 pm on Sunday, they released one among them. Presently, nine persons are still missing. Our people are no longer safe even to fetch firewood because they are not sure if they will return.

"How can we go to the farm and start planting now? We are helpless, government should please help us," he said.

Similarly, Khadamari the capital of Jere Local Government Area has been attacked where some parts of the newly renovated Secretaria­t were burnt down and military equipment carted away.

In the same vein, an explosion occurred at farm center IDPs camp Maiduguri when according to the camp manager, a 13-year-old child was playing with an unexploded ordinance (UXO) that was said to have been brought from Bama LGA yesterday.

National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) shared the informatio­n on a Facebook page that the UXO exploded while the innocent child playfully smashed it on an iron resulting in the death of a child and injuring three persons.

NEMA further said that the victims were taken to Borno state specialist Hospital for medical treatment.
