7-year-old girl murdered in Jos

- From Ado Abubakar Musa, Jos

A seven-year-old girl, Juwairiya Auwal was on Saturday murdered inside Jos Museum, located in the heart of Jos North Local Government Area of the state.

This is coming barely after a similar incident occurred at Tudun Fera, a Jos community where eight-year-old Faruk Abubakar was slaughtered by a yet-to-be-identified culprit when he was sent to buy livestock feed.

According to the mother of the victim, Hajiyeye Haruna, the deceased and her elder sister, Fatima Auwal, went out to sell brooms on Saturday but met with a woman who allegedly kidnapped them in Jos Museum, also known as (old zoo), where the younger girl (victim) was murdered, while the elder sister managed to escape.

Fatima, 13, who narrowly escaped narrated that “We were resting around Tudun OP, in Rikkos community after making some sales. A woman approached us asking for the price of the broom we were selling. We told her, but she asked us to give her for free, and we refused the request. As she (the woman) opened her fingers towards our faces, we mysteriously emerged inside a hut within Jos Museum.”

She said the woman at that point brought out a knife and slaughtered the younger sister. Frightened, she ran out of the hut shouting and asking for help, after which somebody came to her aid and took her to the ‘A’ Division police station where the incident was reported.

The mother of the victims told Daily Trust that the deceased’s body was recovered by the police and handed over to the family for funeral prayers.

Contacted, the spokesperson of the state police command, DSP Uba Gabriel said he was not signaled on the incident, saying “I need to go there to hear from the DPO. His number is not connecting.”
