‘My daughter was lured with egg, rice,’ says rape victim’s father

The father of a six-year-old rape victim, Okehelem Palace Oyenma, has called on the police to ensure that justice prevails over the case of his daughter.

Speaking with journalists yesterday in Benin during a protest march to the secretariat of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Edo State Council, he alleged that one culprit identified as Destiny Obiyan had on July 4, at Edobor

Street, off Uwelu quarters in Egor Local government Area of Edo State lured his six-year-old daughter with rice and egg and defiled her.

He said he got to know of the sad incident when he noticed that the daughter was bleeding profusely from her private part.

“He (Obiyan) took my daughter through the backyard to his house, bought her rice and egg.

“My daughter told me that after feeding her, he pulled her pant, puts his fingers, and thereafter raped her.”

He said on the night of the incident, they searched for her along with the vigilante group not knowing that she was in the house of the culprit.

“When we found her and discovered that she was bleeding, we asked her to take us to the house of the rapist, but she said she can’t locate the house that night.

“So the following day, I asked her to take her mother to the rapist’s house while I went to the police station to report.

“When we went with the police to Obiyan’s house, we met him and his native doctor with charms inside his parlour, with a handkerchief stained with blood.

“The test results from the police clinic and from the government hospital has shown that there were penetrations’, said the father.

When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP, Chidi Nwanbuzor confirmed the incident and said the matter was already in court.
