Benue COVID-19 palliatives intercepted in Kano
Over 1,958 cartons of noodles valued at N4 million, meant for delivery to Benue State have been recovered by the police in Kano.
The noodles were said to be part of 3,850 cartons donated by Dangote Foundation for distribution to vulnerable families in Benue State.
The state Commissioner of Police Habu A. Sani who confirmed this at a press briefing yesterday said the noodles were part of 3,850 cartons diverted from the state.
The suspect, Yusuf Abdullahi however claimed he bought the noodles from the beneficiaries who had no need for them.
He said some of the beneficiaries exchanged the noodles for rice and other products, while some collected cash in exchange for the noodles. The products were intercepted at Singa market.
Meanwhile, the Police Command in Kano has paraded 259 suspected criminals for various offences ranging from armed robbery, kidnapping, car theft, and tricycle snatching among others.
The Commissioner of Police, Habu A. Sani who paraded the suspects yesterday said they were arrested from various locations by a team of Operation Puff Adder of the command.
He said the arrests were made within the last six weeks, between July 23 and Sept.8, as part of an effort to intensify onslaught on criminals with a view to protecting lives and property in the state.
He said the suspects included 45 suspected armed robbers; eight members of a kidnapping gang, 14 motor vehicle thieves, seven tricycle thieves, and 14 motorcycle thieves.
He listed other suspects to include eight suspected drug dealers, 28 fraudsters and 146 thugs, adding that the command also rescued four victims of solitary confinement and freed five captives, and further recovered some arms, ammunition and drugs, among others.
