Houses, farms submerged in Kwara North flood
No fewer than 2,500 people have been displaced as their homes and farms were submerged by flood in Pategi, Kwara North.
It would be recalled that a similar incident was recorded in Jebba and Lafiagi areas of the state a few days ago where several houses and farms were taken over by flood the local governments.
While speaking on the ordeals of the people displaced by the flood to the Deputy Governor, Kayode Alabi, during his visit to the affected communities in Pategi, the Etsu Nupe, Alhaji Umar Ibrahim (Bologi II) said all their houses, farms and means of livelihood have been submerged in the flood, subjecting them to untold hardship.
He said this was the second time within a week that such an incident happened, leaving many houses and properties destroyed.
The monarch called on the government to assist those displaced with relief materials and also find a permanent solution to the incessant flooding that usually affects the riverine communities in his domain.
A community leader in one of the affected areas, Gbaradogi in Pategi, Mohammed Nda Sado, who spoke through an interpreter during the deputy governor's visit, lamented the destruction the flood has done to their community and appealed to the government to relocate them to a safer area.
The deputy governor assured those affected that the government would give them necessary palliatives soon and counseled the riverine communities to take caution in their activities within the environment.
