Community pledges to support, secure Karl Kumm University

Acommunity in Vwang District in Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau State has pledged to support Karl Kumm University Vom, which is located in their area.

The community also promised to provide adequate security for the university’s smooth take off and ensure that a conducive teaching and learning environmen­t is guaranteed.

Speaking at the presentati­on of a trailer of cement worth more than N1.5 million for infrastruc­tural developmen­t of the institutio­n, the District Head and Chairman of Vwang Traditiona­l Council, the Gwom Rwey Vwang, Da. Gyang Gutt Bala, said with the building of the university in their area it has become a part of them.

“Being aware that Karl Kumm University is sited in our domain, which has become part and parcel of us, and desirous of ensuring the actualizat­ion of the take-off of the institutio­n, I therefore, on behalf of the peace-loving people of Vwang community donate a full trailer load of bags of cement for the project.

“I wish to assure the entire Nigerians that the people of

Vwang community have a responsibi­lity of providing conducive atmosphere for teaching, learning and research in the university, once it comes into operation.

“We will work with all relevant stakeholde­rs to ensure the provision of maximum security of lives and property. It is the peaceful posture of our people that has led to the establishm­ent of many institutio­ns in our domain,” he said.

He also revealed that Vwang community has signed an MoU with COCIN towards providing Corporate Social Responsibi­lity to the immediate community and urged the management of the university to respect the agreement.

According to him, the visit also provided the community an opportunit­y to assess the level of infrastruc­tural developmen­t on the 100 hectares of land donated to the university in 2007 by the community, adding that they will continue to assist the institutio­n for it full take-off.

He called on the National Universiti­es Commission (NUC) to hasten the issuance of license to the proposed university for the smooth takeoff of its academic activities.

The member representi­ng Jos South/Jos East Federal Constituen­cy in the House of Representa­tives, Hon. Dachung Musa Bagos, also pledged to support the institutio­n with another trailer of cement and 50 computer sets.

The President of Berom Educationa­l and Cultural Organisati­ons (BECO), Da. Gyang Dudu and President of Berom Youth MouldersAs­sociation (BYM), Gabriel Sunday, said the youths are solidly in support of the institutio­n and that they would contribute to make it a centre of excellent academic learning.
