JIBWIS commends Unijos VC over admission policy
The Jama’atu Izalatil Bid’a Wa’ikamatis Sunnah (JIBWIS), has commended the Vice-Chancellor of University of Jos, Seddi Maimako, for instituting a fair and equitable admission policy into the institution.
Sheikh Imam Abubakar Gana, JIBWIS’s Director of Education in Plateau State, made the commendation, yesterday, during a visit by the group to the management of the institution in Jos.
According to the director, the organisation had observed an increase in the number of admissions given to qualified candidates in all communities since Prof. Maimako took over the affairs of the institution.
He said such development had improved mutual coexistence between the institution and Muslim and other communities in the state.
“This gesture has been widely commended by members of the Muslim community. We have been hearing from nooks and crannies of our various communities that the youths are being considered for admission. Parents find it difficult to express their appreciation directly to him due to the long protocol of seeing him.
“So, this group represents the communities and is extending their appreciation and encouragement to him to do more.
“We have over 200 schools and we have noticed the number of students that have secured admission under your leadership,” he added.
Responding on behalf of the vice chancellor, the Deputy ViceChancellor (Academy), Professor Tanko Ishaya, commended the group for recognising the effort of the university, adding that it was the responsibility of every institution of learning to be fair and carry everybody along.
“That is what every university is supposed to do. The university is not for a set of people. It is for all Nigerians irrespective of their ethnic or religious affiliations.
“We are encouraged by the visit and you are challenging us to do more. We should continue to put hands together for the sake of humanity and unity of this country. God has destined us to live together and we must respect one another,” he said.
