The federal government, through the National Lottery Trust Fund, has donated hospital equipment to Usen General Hospital in Ovia South West and in Ogbese Maternity Centre in Ovia North East Local Government areas of Edo State.

Presenting the items to the management of the hospitals, the Executive Secretary/Chief Executive Officer, National Lottery Trust Fund, Dr. Bello Maigari, said the gesture was part of efforts by the government to reduce maternal mortality and ensure access to quality health care service in rural communities.

He said the donation was in line with of President Muhammadu Buhari’s commitment towards wellbeing of the common man.

He said the agency’s vision was to deliver a world-class vital medical facility to complement the efforts of the state government in saving lives by providing high standard of care not only to the vulnerable groups in the society.

“The target is to cover the entire 774 local government areas across the nation.

“Let me reassure you that NLTF has put in place a robust and comprehensive monitoring and evaluation system to help it track the progress of its intervention programmes, and in particular, the utilisation of these facilities in these hospitals,” he said.

He solicited support from stakeholders in the health sector in raising awareness on the value of lottery funding to modern life and its transformational legacy to the nation.

Items donated include phototherapy machine, delivery beds, blood banks, haematocrit centrifuges, defibrillators, infant incubators and baby cots.

The Zonal Coordinator of the fund, Edwin Ajah, said the donation would help the less privileged and the vulnerable, who cannot afford to pay for exorbitant fees in private hospitals to access vital services.

The Medical Director, Usen General Hospital, Dr. Aiguobasimwin Solomon, said the facilities would go a long way in ameliorating the suffering of the people of the both communities.
