FCTA erects 36 signages, removes 2,747 others
The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has erected 36 new signages to help enlighten citizens while they move about the city, while it also removed 2,747 others which were considered to have defaced the city.
Briefing journalists on Wednesday in Abuja, the Director, Department of Outdoor Advertising and Signages, Dr Babagana Adam, said the signages were installed to ensure standardization and environmental protection of the city.
He said the exercise was part of efforts to bring Abuja up to the standard of other international capital cities in the world, stressing that the department would not allow illegal signages litter the streets.
The director added that the illegal ones removed were threat to security and constituted waste in the city.
“We have installed 36 signages in the city and 2, 747 illegal ones have been removed. This is to help bring about standardization, regulations, control and environmental protection.
“The department is not against anyone’s progress but to ensure that right things are put in place for the good of all,” he said.
Adam also said the department had generated N500 million in the last 6 months while assuring that the tempo would be sustained to ensure the department achieves its revenue generation mandate.
He urged cooperate bodies and relevant stakeholders to support the department in its quest to ensure sanity in the Federal Capital Territory.
According to him, the 36 signages installed so far have generated about 50,000 direct jobs for the residents.
