Gombe police arrest 21-year-old drug dealer, recover N400,000

The Gombe State Police Command yesterday said it has arrested a 21-year-old suspected drug dealer in possession of a substance believed to be illicit drugs.

The state Commission­er of Police, Ahmed Maikudi Shehu, told newsmen that Babayo Yahaya of Pantami quarters of the metropolis was arrested on September 14 by the Lowcost Police Division based on credible informatio­n by the public.

He said the suspect was arrested with 107 bunch of Tramadol capsules, in addition to other drugs worth millions of naira, and also recovered N400,000 he issued to police as a bribe.

He said the suspect confessed his activities as a dealer of illicit drugs for about two years operating within Gombe and its environs.

CP Shehu said the illicit drugs and a sum of N400,000 allegedly used by the suspect to bribe the police was recovered by the police.

He added that the suspect also claimed to have purchased the illicit drugs from one Ebuka Chimeze of Onitsha in Anambra State still at large.

The CP said the case will be transferre­d to the National Drugs Law Enforcemen­t Agency (NDLEA) for further investigat­ion and prosecutio­n.

Meanwhile, the police have arrested one Fidelis Ephraim, 37, of Tal village of Billiri LGA of the state, over alleged motorcycle theft and culpable homicide.

The suspect was alleged to have killed a commercial motorcycli­st and snatched the motorcycle, which he subsequent­ly ‘sold’ at Lafiya Lamurde in Adamawa State.

According to the police, Ephraim hired the motorcycli­st to take him to a farm located on the outskirt of Tal village.

“However, when they reached the farm, he killed him (rider) and run away with the motorcycle to Lafiya Lamurde in Adamawa state and sold it,” the police said.
