Buhari asks Senate to confirm 8 nominees as S/Court Justices

President Muhammadu Buhari has submitted a list of eight Justices of Appeal Court to the Senate for confirmation as Justices of Supreme Court of Nigeria.

The nominees’ list as contained in Buhari’s letter, dated August 31, 2020 and addressed to Senate President Ahmad Lawan, was read at the plenary yesterday.

Buhari said their appointment was pursuant to section 231(2) of the 1999 constitution and upon the advice of the National Judicial Council.

They are: Hon. Justice Lawal Garba, North West; Hon. Justice Helen M. Ogunwumiju, South West; Hon. Justice Addu Aboki, North West; Hon. Justice I. M. M. Saulawa, North West; Hon. Justice Adamu Jauro, North East; Hon. Justice Samuel C. Oseji, South South; Hon. Justice Tijjani

Abubakar, North East; and Hon. Justice Emmanuel A. Agim, South South.

Similarly, the president also forwarded for Senate confirmation, list of six nominees for appointment as chairman, Director General and Executive Commissioners of National Pension Commission.

They are: Dr. Oyindasola Oluremi Oni (North Central) chairman; Aisha Dahir Umar (North East) Director-General; Hannatu Musa (North West), Commissioner; Clement Oyedele Akintola (South West) Commissioner; Ayim C. Nyerere (South East), Commissioner and Charles Efe Sylvester Emukowhale (South South) Commissioner.

Buhari also requested the Senate to confirm the appointment of Nasir Isa Kwarra as Chairman of National Population Commission and eleven others as commissioners.
