Commissioner of Information, Home Affairs and Culture, Abdullahi Bego, said the exercise was part of Governor Mai Mala Buni’s efforts of retooling and repositioning Yobe’s media organizations.

“Over many years, the Yobe Television Service (YTV) and Radio Service (YBC) have atrophied due to many factors, including aged and outof-date equipment; lack of servicing and replenishment of equipment, and lack of continuous staff training, amongst others”, he said.

The commissioner disclosed that a few months ago, Governor Buni approved about N90 million for the rehabilitation, repairs, upgrade and replacement of equipment at YTV and YBC.

“While work is still ongoing, it’s more than 80 percent complete. YBC FM and AM stations now run live 24/7. Both stations are available on www.sahelradio.com,ng and also available on Radio Garden. YTV’s new transmitter along Potiskum road has now been connected and a wave guide installed he said.

The commissioner charged the contractor handling the project to strictly adhere to contractual agreement, adding that after the renovation, the government will supply modern equipment in addition to placing the state television on free to air satellite.

The Director of Operations of Sikelma Ventures, Muktari Sani Dan Kano, who is in charge of the project assured the company would carry out quality job as contained in the contractual agreement.

He commended Governor Buni’s mission of revitalizing the broadcast industries in the state assuring that the effort will go a long way in placing Yobe globally.
