... No entrance exam, no JSS 1, Zulum says
Governor Zulum granted the principals’ request for the reintroduction of common entrance examination in primary schools.
The principals had earlier taken their turns to point out the problems facing the 84 secondary schools across the 27 local government areas of the state.
Most of them had urged the governor to critically look into reintroduction of common entrance examination which, according to them, should be a yardstick for admission into secondary schools.
The principals complaiined about poor quality of primary school graduates who come into secondary schools with strong foundation
Governor Zulum directed that common entrance examination be immediately reintroduced.
He also directed the enforcement of a policy that henceforth, only pupils who pass the examination by securing a cut-off mark should be eligible for admission into the first year of junior secondary schools (JSS 1) as against giving admission to all pupils regardless of the common entrance criterion.
Zulum equally directed that school authorities, henceforth, take all qualifying and promotional examinations serious as the state government would monitor all conducts.
The governor asked the principals to submit to him within one week, the list of other issues they might also identify as problems of public secondary schools in the state.
