Kidnappers of 8 Kuje officials demand N100m ransom

The kidnappers of a former vice chairman of Kuje area council, Mohammed Baba, and seven other council officials have demanded N100 million ransom before the hostages can be set free.

City News had reported that gunmen suspected to kidnappers on Saturday, abducted the former vice chairman, two councillors and some aides of the council chairman along KabbiGaube road, while attending a reception organized for the newly appointed LEA secretary of the council, Yunusa Zakara, at his Kabbi village.

An official of the council, who preferred anonymity, told our reporter that the kidnappers called on Sunday evening, through the phone of one of the senior council officials and demanded N100 million ransom.

"Negotiation is still ongoing as the amount they requested is too much. We hope they will bring the ransom down," he said.

City news also learnt that the kidnappers were demanding N10 million ransom for a man and his 23 years- old son who were abducted last Wednesday at Pegi community of the council.

A relative of the victims, who preferred anonymity, disclosed that the kidnappers have made contact with family members of the victims and they insist on collecting N10 million ransom before the victims would be released.

When contacted, the spokesman of the FCT police command, ASP Mariam Yusuf, said the command was not aware of any ransom demand from the kidnappers, saying effort was ongoing to ensure all the kidnapped victims were rescued alive.
