715 households affected by flood in 2 Niger councils

About 715 households in 57 communitie­s have been affected by flood in Bosso and Paikoro Local Government Areas of Niger State, washing away crops worth millions of naira.

The Head, National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Minna Operations Office, Wagami Lydia, disclosed this during the presentati­on of relief materials to the affected people.

Lydia, who was represente­d by the Head of Search & Rescue Unit, Hussaini Isah, noted that this year's flooding was predicted by NiMET early in the year and it had come to pass.

He said the relief items were to ameliorate the hardship which the flood disaster inflicted on the people.

“The relief items approved and on ground here for distributi­on include; 715 bags of 12.5kg rice, 715 bags of 12.5kg maize, 715 bags of 25kg beans, 72 kegs of vegetable oil, 120 cartons of seasoning cubes, 60 cartons of tomato ketchup, 36 bags of salt, 1,430 pieces of foam mattresses, 1,430 pieces of wax print, 1,430 pieces of mosquito nets, 1,430 pieces of blankets, 600 bags of cement, 600 bundles of roofing sheets, 160 packets of zinc nails, and 80 bags of 3 inches nails,” he said.

The Chairman of Bosso Local Government Area, Arc. Abubakar Gomna, who spoke for the two affected LGAs thanked the federal government for its magnanimit­y, noting that when the incident occurred, the affected people did not envisage receiving help this quickly.
