Yobe launches ‘Buni money agent’
Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni on Monday laid a foundation stone for the construction of N2,614,454,200.07 modern market at Nguru, headquarters of Nguru Local Government Area.
Buni, while laying the foundation, said the project was part of his administration’s commitment to boosting commerce and trade to enhance the local and state economy.
He said: “As an administration that is focused on improving the well-being of the citizenry, we believe that one of the areas that can bring about rapid economic growth and development, is the provision of necessary infrastructure for our people to pursue their legitimate goals and means of livelihood.
“Nguru town has a long history of commerce and trade. However, as time goes on, the need for corresponding incentives and conducive environment to move with time is both important and necessary. This explains why the government found it expedient to embark on this project.”
He expressed belief that driving crusade to make agriculture attractive and profitable could further be achieved when a competitive marketing among traders coming from various states across the country was created.
“The new market will no doubt captivate more traders to Nguru for our farmers to have value for their produce.
“Government is confident that the new Modern Market would create employment opportunities and promote self-reliance to impact positively on the economy of the community, state and the country,” the governor said.
Buni also flagged off the construction of 16km Nguru Ballanguwa Road as well as Nguru township road and drainages.
The Commissioner for Commerce, Industry and Tourism, Barma Shettima, thanked Buni for fulfilling his campaign promises to the people of the state, especially on construction of modern market across the state.
