Insecurity: PTA wants rural schools secured

The National President of ParentTeacher Association (PTA), Alhaji Haruna Danjuma, has called on the Kaduna State government to deploy more security personnel to the rural areas so as to secure schools in the hinterlands.

According to Danjuma, with the recent reopening of schools across the state, it has become crucial to increase security presence around schools in remote communities, calling for collaboration between the Police, Civil defence, the Para-military as well as the Vigilante.

“We must support the education of our children and we must join hands towards making them have an enabling environment for their studies,” he said.

Danjuma also said the six months lockdown due to the coronavirus pandemic has caused a setback to the education sector especially to young children at the rural areas, adding that; “there is need to clean all the classes, toilets, and cut the grasses around the schools premises to avert attack by rodents.”

The Kaduna State Secretary of Coalition of Civilian JTF, Comrade Sunusi Surajo, said they were ready to provide security cover to all schools in communities in the state, adding that their men have been trained on the need to protect students, teachers and other residents surrounding the schools.

Also speaking, the chairman of Child Protection and Survival in Kaduna, Diji Haruna Obadiya, said the rising cases of kidnapping and insecurity in the north have become a thing of concern which needed the support of every member of the community.

He called on the PTA and heads of schools as well as security officials in every community to engage in regular meetings on issues related to peace.
