‘Abductors of Catholic priest yet to make contact’

- By Abubakar Sadiq Isah

A member of the St. Anthony Parish Church, Yangoji in Kwali Area Council, said abductors of Reverend Father Mathew Dajo were yet to make contact with relatives or members of the church since he was kidnapped last Sunday.

Daily trust had reported that gunmen invaded the private residence of the Reverend Father and whisked him away at gunpoint.

The church member, who is also a close aide to the priest, told our reporter on condition of anonymity that no member of the church had been able to establish contact with the kidnappers.

He said the lack of communication with the kidnappers has thrown the entire church into disarray, adding that the members were seriously worried.

“In fact, since our Reverend Father was abducted on Sunday night, his abductors have not called or demanded ransom and none of the members has been able to establish contact with them. The situation is giving our members serious concern,” he said.

He noted that they have embarked on fasting and prayers to ensure that the security agents, including officers of the state security

services, rescue the priest alive.

Our reporter learnt that the priest worked at one of the parishes in Lugbe, Airport Road, Abuja, before he was transferred to Yangoji in Kwali Area Council a month ago, where he was abducted.

The spokesperson of the FCT police command, ASP Mariam Yusuf, did not pick calls put across to her but the FCT police command had on Monday, in a statement, said the command had launched an operation to rescue the priest.
