Another open letter to the President
On 12th March 2020, I wrote an open letter to you my president, titled, “An Open Letter to the President” complaining about the various forms of insecurity, bedeviling this nation.
I specifically raised concerns about the attack in Auno, on the outskirt of Maiduguri. Though I got feedbacks through my email from some presidential aides assuring me that the letter has received the necessary attention. There was a significant improvement afterward, but we are back to the same situation again.
I am writing this letter now with the hope that the issues I raised will be addressed permanently. Some days ago, some hardworking farmers, who answered your call to go back to the farm, in line with your Economic Recovery Plans, were slaughtered. Mr President, the situation is spinning out of control, all is not well. And it is not just North East, Zamfara, Katsina, Sokoto, Kaduna, Niger, Nasarawa and many other states are now among the most difficult places to survive in the world. This country is not secured. Whoever says otherwise is not telling you the truth.
I am writing this letter as a diehard supporter of yours. People like me now find it difficult to participate in debates.We are being seen as liars, sycophants, who are blinded by your love and not by your ability and commitment to do what is right. Things are falling apart, the security of the nation, under whose mantra we won this election, is at its lowers ebb. The fight against corruption is collapsing, the economy is in distress, due to disregard for the rule of law. People keep behaving as if there is no government in place. This is not what I signed for Baba.
Finally Sir, I still think we can make a difference. People need to be well informed about the security situation, the efforts been made and the challenges. It looks like the system we are using is either not working or outdated. If there are conspiracies beyond the shores of Nigeria, we need to be informed. Nowadays, wars are being fought through surveillance, which we seemed to be lacking.
There is an urgent need for a total change of strategy in the way we confront insurgency and other security challenges.
Long live Mr President. Long Live the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
