Family of slain job seeker seeks justice

The family of the slain job seeker, Miss Iniubong Umoren, has implored that justice is served to all those involved in their sister's death.

They appealed to the Akwa Ibom State government to ensure that perpetrators of the heinous crime be prosecuted, saying that is what will bring succour to the family.

Elder brother to the deceased, Mr Ukeme Umoren, made the appeal to Governor Udom Emmanuel on Monday when he paid a condolence visit to the family in Ndot village in Oruk Anam Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State.

Umoren, who

said

the deceased was their youngest sister, lamented that they lost their parents while in secondary schools and struggled on their own to get tertiary education.

He explained that late Iniubong was awaiting her call up letter for the National Youth Service Programme before she was murdered.

He applauded the state government for the visit and urged that it does not abandon the family during this trying period of their lives.

Governor Udom Emmanuel who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Dr Emmanuel Ekuwem, sympathised with the family on the incident which he described as tragic and pathetic to a young girl who went out to seek opportunity to earn a living.

He assured the family that the state government would ensure justice is done in the case, adding that the police would carry out a thorough investigation into the matter to ensure justice.

Late Iniubong Umoren was sexually and physically abused by Uduak Akpan when she responded to his job interview offer on April 29, 2021.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Odiko Macdon, the exhumed body of the deceased who was murdered and buried in a shallow grave by the suspect has been deposited in the mortuary at the University of Uyo Teaching Hospital.
