Gombe governor urges prayers for peace, stability
Gombe State Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya has felicitated with the Muslim Ummah in the state as they join other faithful the world over in celebrating this year’s Eid el-fitr which marks the successful completion of the Ramadan fast.
In a goodwill message signed by the Director-General, Press Affairs, Government House, Gombe, Ismaila Uba Misilli, the governor urged the Ummah to sustain the lessons of the holy month and replicate them in their daily lives for the good of the society.
He also called on the people to intensify prayers for peace and harmony in the state and the nation.
”Eid el-fitr festival connotes sacrifice, selflessness, love and obedience to the tenets of Islam. I therefore enjoin us to draw enduring lessons from the Ramadan and show love to one another as well as promote harmony and peaceful coexistence among our diverse people.
“The same way we all remembered the less privileged and those afflicted by poverty and disease during Ramadan, I implore us to carry over these attributes beyond Ramadan,” the governor admonished.
He lamented the spate of kidnappings, cattle rustling, banditry and insurgency as well as threats of secession from some parts of the country which he described as threats to peaceful coexistence and harmony among the citizenry.
According to the governor, what is required at the moment is prayers for the nation’s stability.
He urged the traditional rulers, religious and community leaders to sustain the prevailing peace and security for the socio-economic development of the state.
The governor assured that his administration remained committed to the provision and implementation of viable projects and programmes aimed at taking the state to the next level of prosperity and development.
He commended the Muslim Ummah and the entire people of the state for their steadfastness in the midst of challenges, urging them not to despair, but to remain resolute and prayerful as well as continue to support the government in its efforts to ensure peace and stability.
“I also enjoin you to continue to complement government efforts of confronting the myriad of challenges bedeviling the country through prayers. Our administration will spare no effort in working for the security, wellbeing and prosperity of the state,” the governor added.
