Ondo varsity student commits suicide

- From Bola Ojuola, Akure

A 200 level female student of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko (AAUA) in Ondo State, Feranmi Fasunle Omowumi, has committed suicide over a yet to be identified matter.

The late Omowunmi, a student of the Political Science Department, was said to have drunk a substance suspected to be sniper on Wednesday in her room.

Sources in the university said nobody knew the exact reason behind her action but that it might be connected to her relationship.

“She took Sniper mixed with Garri. When people got to know, she was first taken to a health centre, then to State Specialist Hospital, Ikare and then FMC (Owo) where she died.

“Till now, no one knows the reason(s) behind her misfortune,” a source said.

Omowunmi gave up the ghost yesterday (Thursday) after her family was contacted.

The management of the university confirmed the story yesterday.

The spokesman for the school, Mr Victor Akinpelu, while reacting to the sad incident, described her death as unfortunate.

Akinpelu said there was an indication that Omowunmi committed suicide for another reason.

He said: “The bad incident happened on Wednesday and we have not carried out our findings to ascertain if she committed suicide over relationship issues.

“We will further react if we later know why she took that decision to take her own life.”
