Warri-Itakpe rail line vandalised as NRC engages communities
Vandals on Tuesday sliced several sections of the Itakpe-Warri standard gauge rail line, a viral video seen by our reporter has shown.
The vandals, still unknown, used what appears to be a saw to slice through the rail line to a point where the pieces could be taken, thus exposing passengers on train to danger.
The incident, our correspondent gathered happened on Tuesday around kilometre 30 in Adogo area of Kogi State.
When contacted, the Managing Director/CEO, the Nigerian Railway Corporation, Engr. Fidet Okhiria confirmed the incident to our correspondent.
He however said the train is still being operated as there is an alternative to the vandalised section.
“The incident happened two days ago. But we are still in operations because we have an alternative,” he noted.
The corporation also revealed it will engage communities to guard the transport infrastructure from further acts of vandalism.
