- From Hope Abah Emmanuel, Makurdi

Jennifer Uta, 21, who survived a recent deadly attack on Abagena Internally Displaced Peoples’ (IDPs) camp in Makurdi Local Government Area of Benue State, has been delivered of twins.

Uta was heavy with pregnancy when on the night of April 26, 2021, gunmen invaded the IDPs camp along the Makurdi-Lafia road and rained bullets on the occupants.

“I saw them from the corner where I dwell at the camp and alerted others. We were terribly afraid. They fired gunshots but in the end, God spared my life.

“After the dust settled in the morning, six dead bodies were discovered and one other later died at the hospital, bringing those killed to seven. Many people sustained injuries,” she narrated.

The 21-year-old who delivered her babies - both male - at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) in Makurdi through a Ceaserean Section thanked God for safety before, during and after childbirth.

Uta’s husband, Isaiah confirmed that the birth of the twins was his wife’s first delivery and appealed for assistance to take care of the mother and children.

A humanitarian worker, Daniel Adakole, who was present at the hospital to encourage the couple, listed the minor challenges facing the newborns and their mother to include, baby food, baby clothes, pampers, body lotion and soap among others.

The matron in charge of the ward where Uta was kept at the hospital, Matron Ashimom confirmed that she was admitted as an IDP.
