Why PDP may not wrest power from APC in Ekiti – Sen Olujimi
The Senator representing Ekiti South, Biodun Olujimi, has said her party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), may not wrest power from the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2022 governorship election in Ekiti State because of the festering crisis in its state chapter.
The PDP in the state is neckdeep in crisis following the battle between Olujimi and a former governor of the state, Ayo Fayose, for the control of party structure.
Sen Olujimi stated this at the weekend while commissioning a block of classrooms and distributing bags of fertiliser and herbicides to farmers in her country home in Ekiti South.
The senator said if the Prince Uche Secondus-led National Working Committee (NWC) of the party did not wade into the crisis, it would spell doom for the party.
She said, “There is no doubt that time is running out for PDP in Ekiti. I believe that we should explore a peaceful avenue before we embark on any extraneous step. The party’s leadership must sit down and look at all the issues and resolve amicably. Failure to do so will not be palatable for the party, and I am sure the party is aware of this.
“The language of leadership should be peace, love and reconciliation, because political parties operate open door policies. In other words, you are free to join and you are free to leave.
“This leadership that we lay claims to can’t be conferred by us. It is the people that will confer it on us. That is why we need to always respect our followers and consider them in decision-making.
“We have to be nice to each other and ensure that there is peace. I am sure that the former governor (Ayo Fayose) must have looked back and known that it was not proper and be ready to make amend.”
