Dahiru Bauchi recognises Sanusi as leader of Tijjaniyya sect

- From Hassan Ibrahim, Bauchi

Respected Islamic Scholar, Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi, has accepted the former Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, as the Khalifa of Tijjaniyya sect, praying to Allah for guidance and protection in his new position.

The cleric disclosed his acceptance of Sanusi on Monday when the former Emir of Kano presented the official letter of his appointment as Khalifa of Tijjaniyya sect in Nigeria to the Sheik in Bauchi.

Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi explained that the new appointment of Sanusi did not invalidate other leaders of the Tijjaniyya sect, especially those who were appointed by the late founder, Shiekh Ibrahim Nyas.

“Your new position as Khalifa of Tijjaniyya is like a General in the military setting and even among the generals, there is seniority. We welcome your appointment as Khalifa and appreciate your foresight and respect for your seniors. I urge you to emulate your late grandfather, Muhammadu Sunusi I.

“I am happy for your selection as a leader and I pray for Allah’s guidance and protection in your position,” he said.

The cleric advised Sanusi not to allow his friends and associates to influence his new position as leader of the sect, adding that the new position is a religious responsibility which should not be merged with either politics or business.

He expressed his displeasure over the invasion of his house by the officials of Kaduna State government, describing it as an affront to the Holy Qur'an and an attack on him because he did nothing to deserve such treatment.

The cleric said he would not have allowed Governor Nasir El-Rufai to enter his house in Bauchi if he had come in the entourage of former Emir Sanusi.

“Where is El-Rufa’i? I thought he would be in your entourage. I would have asked my guards not to allow him to step into this compound because he sent security who attacked Quranic students at 2am in my house.

“They chased Quranic students away, dumped them in the bush far away from town, came back to my house, and threw teargas and harassed the occupants just because they were Quranic reciters. Up till now, many of the victims are nowhere to be found,” the cleric said.

Responding, the former emir of Kano and leader of Tijjaniyya sect in Nigeria, Malam Sanusi, thanked the cleric for his warm reception and prayers.

Responding to the issue of invasion of his Kaduna residence, Sanusi begged Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi to forgive Kaduna State Governor El-rufai over invasion of his Kaduna residence by security operatives during the clampdown on Alamajirai.

He said that he was sure that the governor was not aware of what transpired.
