S/West govs, Gbajabiamila, Tinubu meet over secessionist agitations

- From Abdullateef Aliyu, Lagos

Amid the raging agitation for secession by a section of the South-West, governors in the region are expected to meet in Lagos to examine the development.

The meeting, according to information gathered, is being convened by a former interim Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief Bisi Akande.

Daily Trust reports that the agitation for Oduduwa nation has dominated discussions in the South-West region in recent times with the proponents including the popular secessionist Sunday Adeyemo, known as Sunday Igboho, vowing not to back down.

Igboho was in Osogbo, the Osun State capital, at the weekend for the proOduduwa Republic rally.

But despite the agitation from Igboho and a few Yoruba leaders represented by the popular historian and Second Republic Senators, many stakeholders in the region especially the political leadership are not supporting the clamour.

Some Yoruba stakeholders see the agitation as part of the 2023 game plan to deny their preferred candidate the shot in the presidency.

It is amidst this cacophony that Chief Akande is said to be convening the meeting which is expected to examine the pros and cons of the agitation.

Those expected to attend the meeting are: Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila; APC National Leader, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu; five South-West Governors - Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State; Dapo Abiodun of Ogun; Gboyega Oyetola of Osun State, Rotimi Akeredolu of Ondo and Ekiti State Governor, Kayode Fayemi, who is also the Chairman of the Nigerian Governors Forum.
