Palestinia­n death toll hits 200, as attacks enter 2nd week

The Israeli military launched another series of air raids on the Gaza Strip early on Monday, hours after its caretaker Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the attacks on the Palestinia­n enclave would rage on.

Explosions rocked Gaza City from north to south in a bombardmen­t that was heavier, wider and lasted longer than the air raids that killed at least 42 Palestinia­ns and wounded dozens more on Sunday.

Earlier, Hamas, the group that governs the Gaza Strip, fired rockets towards the Israeli cities of Ashkelon and Beersheba. Israel has reported 10 dead, including two children.

“The headquarte­rs of the Qatari Red Crescent, located in Al Shawa building in the Gaza Strip, was subjected to direct shelling by the Israeli occupation forces, which led to its destructio­n,” the media outlet said in a tweet.

“The Qatar Red Crescent affirmed that it’ll continue to provide relief aid to the affected people in the Gaza Strip, in cooperatio­n with the Palestinia­n Red Crescent.”

Israeli bombardmen­t have “opened hell on the heads of Palestinia­ns”, editor of Gaza Writes Back, a collection of short stories by young writers in Gaza, told Al Jazeera.

“Every night we say this is the worst night of our lives. And then Israel proves us wrong by bombarding more, destroying more, by killing more,” Refaat Alareer said.

Several elite footballer­s have publicly signaled their solidarity with the Palestinia­ns, as the death toll from Israeli air raids mounts in Gaza.

Al Jazeera’s Harry Fawcett reporting from West Jerusalem said rocket attacks from Gaza have continued throughout the day.
