Customs intercepts N100m Tramadol, others
The Federal Operations Unit (FOU), Zone C, of the Nigeria Customs Service, says it has intercepted cartons of Tramadol and other contraband goods worth N100 million between April and June 2021.
It said the drugs were concealed under bags of rice and bails of fairly used clothes by suspected smugglers.
Five persons were also arrested for their alleged involvement in the smuggled items.
The Comptroller of the unit, Yusuf Lawal, in a statement issued yesterday said all the items seized have a Duty Paid Value (DPV) of N99.82m, and were intercepted along OkadaBenin/Lagos expressway.
He said although smuggling is a global phenomenon that cannot be eradicated entirely, all hands should be on deck so that it could be reduced to its barest minimum.
“I am also using this medium to urge officers/ men to always ensure professionalism and be diligent in performing their statutory responsibilities,” he noted.
