Kwara man in court for giving abortion drug to wife

The police in Ilorin on Thursday arraigned a man, Nurudeed Osioyemi, before a magistrate­s’ court for allegedly giving his wife, Balikis Aliyu, an abortion drug which he presented as a pain killer to cure her of body pains.

The drugs led to a miscarriag­e suffered by the wife.

Osioyemi was brought to court on a two-count charge of criminal intimidati­on and causing miscarriag­e contrary to Section 397 and 232 of the Penal Code Law.

The police prosecutor, Sgt

Olufolake Makosa, told the court that the defendant, after his action, further threatened to kill the wife or use her for ritual.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges, and Magistrate Shade Lawal granted him bail in the sum N200,000 with two sureties in like sum and adjourned the case to July 12.
