- By Simon Echewofun Sunday

Speaker of the Nigerian Youth Parliament (NYP), Rt. Hon Mubarak Mijinyawa, has been appointed as the National Youth Delegate of Nigeria in the Commonwealth.

The decision was based on the request of the Commonwealth youth division for all member countries to nominate two youth delegates ahead of the Commonwealth Heads of

Government Meeting (CHOGM).

According to a statement from Mijinyawa, the functions and powers of the National Delegation include to represent and promote the interest of existing and emerging National Youth Councils and youthled organisations at the country level; facilitate the inclusion of youth representatives in official government and civil society delegations to events like CHOGM and United

Assembly.

Delegates would submit reports on the laws, youth policies, regulations and statistics relating to youth in their country.

The nominations were sent through the Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports Development under the supervision of the Minister, Sunday Dare, the statement noted.
