Reps mull 2% consolidated revenue fund for healthcare
The House of Representatives is working towards amending the National Health Act to recommend an increase of the Basic Health Care Provision Fund from the 1% stipulated by the Act to 2% of the Consolidated Revenue Fund.
Speaker Femi Gbajabiamila disclosed this in Abuja yesterday during the 44th and 45th annual general meeting and scientific conference of the West African College of Physicians.
Represented by the chairman of the House Committee on Healthcare Services, Yusuf Sununu, Gbajabiamila said this would improve access to healthcare services for Nigerians, and the country’s health indices.
The Minister of State for Health, Olorunnimbe Mamora, listed the factors contributing to Nigeria’s poor health indices sd including inadequate human resources for health, non-optimal supply chain management , poor data management as well as limited funding to scale up coverage for evidence based interventions.
