Kaduna: Bandits kill 222, rape 20 women in 3 months — Official

Bandits have killed 222 and raped 20 women between April and June this year in Kaduna State. The state’s Commission­er for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Samuel Aruwan, disclosed this while presenting a second quarter report on the security situation in the state.

He said the bandits also abducted 774 persons, out of which 239 were women and 32 minors.

He said 226 persons were injured in bandit attacks within the period under reviewed.

He also said that 87 bandits were killed by security agencies and 24 suspects arrested by the Department of State Services.

According to Aruwan, out of the total number of people killed, 159 were from Kaduna central, 54 from southern Kaduna and nine from Kaduna north.

”The 20 women raped by bandits include 13 minors below the age of 18 including a sevenyear-old boy in Kudan LGA which is a case of sodomy,” he said.

Aruwan also said that a total of 8,553 cattle were rustled by the bandits.

He explained that the statistics were gotten from security agencies in the state.

the insecurity was threatenin­g food security as farmers in the affected communitie­s had abandoned their farmlands for fear of being killed or kidnapped for ransom.

The state Governor, Nasir ElRufai said he was deeply worried by the hardship occasioned by insecurity in the state.

The governor said the security report presented had sobering statistics on the state of security in the state. around the forest of Tsohon Gaya village of Chikun LGA of Kaduna State.

A statement on Tuesday by the Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Mohammed Jalige, said the two other rescued victims were kidnapped recently along Kaduna-Kachia Road.
