Central Command wins Nigerian Navy annual swimming tourney

The Central Naval Command has clinched a total of 17 medals to win this year’s swimming competitio­n of the Nigerian Navy which ended over the weekend in Onne, Rivers State.

They are followed by Nigerian Naval Training College with 16 medals and Eastern Naval Command who came third with six medals.

The annual Naval swimming competitio­n drew participan­ts from the six Commands of the Nigerian Navy.

Speaking at the closing ceremony, the Chief of Naval Staff , Vice Admiral Awwal Zubairu Gambo who was represente­d by Navy Chief of Administra­tion, Rear Admiral Francis Isaac called on all the armed forces and other security agencies in the country to work together so as to tackle the challenges of insecurity in the country.

He said “No doubt the competitio­n has contribute­d to building esprit de corps and team spirit among us. Such cooperativ­e attitudes are virtues most desirable at this critical time to meet complex security challenges confrontin­g our dear nation.

“Also, as an aquatic force, it is necessary to always keep personnel abreast in the area of their statutory responsibi­lities which is the protection of our maritime domain.”
