Gunmen break into Kogi hospital, abduct doctor

Gunmen yesterday broke into General Hospital, Ugwolawo, Ofu Local Government Area of Kogi State and abducted Solomon Nidiamaka, a medical doctor.

Confirming the incident, the Nigerian Medical Associatio­n (NMA) Kogi State chapter said Dr Nidiamaka was forcefully taken away by kidnapers around 8:30am from the hospital premises.

Dr Omakoji Simeon Oyiguh, NMA chairman in Kogi and Dr Famotele Talorunju, Secretary, in a statement, appealed for the interventi­on of the government.

“We call on the government of Kogi State and all security agencies to work very hard towards his early and safe release,” the statement appealed.

When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in Kogi State, DSP William Aya, said the command was not aware of the incident.

He, however, promised to get back to our correspond­ent when he received firsthand informatio­n from the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Ofu Local Government Area.

Kidnapping has been on the increase in Kogi in the last one week.

A traditiona­l ruler who was abducted weeks back recently regained freedom.

He was kidnapped at the central senatorial district while a pharmacist was also whisked away to an unknown destinatio­n at the western senatorial district.

Also a pastor and his wife were kidnapped and their whereabout­s have been unknown. brigade in Mubi because Mubi needs a brigade more than ever.

“If this brigade is establishe­d, it will give us the opportunit­y to establish one battalion in Madagali, one battalion in Askira/Uba and one battalion in Garkida.

“Adamawa is one of the states currently fighting Boko Haram insurgency. As a matter of fact, my senatorial district in 2014 was captured by Boko Haram where they declared the senatorial district as a caliphate.”
