Free treatment for 30,950 pregnant women, children as Buni approves N200m for health equity
The Yobe State Government is set to offer sustainable free medical support to 30,950 pregnant women and children below the age of five, under the Buni Equity Health Programme.
The Executive Secretary of the Yobe State Contributory Healthcare Management Agency (YSCHMA), Dr Babagana Tijjani, the agency had embarked on sensitisation tour to Fika, Bade and other emirate councils for the success of the programme.
He said the Buni Equity Programme was meant to ensure effective and free treatment for pregnant women and children from zero to five across the 178 political wards of the state.
Tijjani stated that apart from the successful enrolment and registering of the civil servants into the contributory health programme, Governor Buni is also determined to ensure that pregnant women and other indigents are captured under the universal health coverage.
“As I am talking to you, His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Yobe State, Hon. Mai Mala Buni, has approved the sum of N200 million for the Health Equity Programme.
“Under the programme, we intend to enrol 30,950 pregnant women and children U5 across the 178 political ward where each ward will benefit with at least 173 persons,” Tijjani said.
He emphasised that the sensitisation tour was meant to enlighten the traditional institutions on the programme for further mobilization and acceptance at the grassroots.
“The enrollment under the Equity Programme will be done electronically and all healthcare services under the programme will be provided by the Primary Healthcare Centers (PHCs) across the state with an organised referral system to Secondary Healthcare Providers.”
The Emir of Fika and Chairman, Yobe State Council of Chiefs, Alhaji Muhammadu Abali Ibn Muhammadu Idrissa and that of Bade, Alhaji Abubakar Umar Suleiman, thanked Governor Buni and the YSCHMA for the initiative.
The emirs pledged heir support for successful implementation of the programme in their domains and the state in general.
