Smuggling activities drop in Katsina — Official

-

The Acting Controller of the Nigeria Customs Service, Katsina Area Command, Deputy Comptroller Dalha Wada Chedi, has disclosed that the rate of smuggling activities is on the decrease in the state.

Chedi said this to journalists in Katsina while exhibiting 12 vehicles and other contrabands with a duty paid value of N65,049,740 seized by the command.

He said the reduction in smuggling across border communities in the state was due to efforts of the men and officers of the command, including the public sensitisation campaign embarked on by the command.

“Take rice for instance, this month we confiscated 126 bags compared to the over 600 bags last month. So you can see how the rate of smuggling is reducing in the state,” Chedi said.

Some of the items seized included 126 bags of foreign rice, 104 jerry cans of vegetable oil, 33 cartons of foreign spaghetti, 121 pieces of gas cylinders, 128 jerry cans of petrol and six bags of foreign fertiliser.

The acting controller reiterated his call on the residents to embrace the legal way of doing business by coming forward to inquire about the processes and procedures from the command.
