Protest in Bayelsa over Amayanabo stool

-

Youths of the Ewoama-Brass community in Okpoama Kingdom of Brass Council Area of Bayelsa State have protested against Chief Okuromo Sam Dawai, whom they said was parading himself as Amayanabo of Ewoama Community.

He urged him to stop laying claim to the stool in the interest of peace and harmony in the area. The Ewoama youths said, during a protest march to the Brass Area Command of the Nigeria Police Force in Twon-Brass where they submitted a protest letter to the area commander, the Dawa has never been appointed or crowned as king of the community.

The youth leader of Ewoama community, Berepelenyo Nathan, said Chief Dawai who is a Chief in TwonBras Kingdom, a separate community from Ewoama, said the community had never elected, appointed or crowned king of Ewoama community.

According to him, it was not the culture of the Nembe speaking people for one to be a chief in one kingdom and a king in another kingdom.

He said the attempt to set up parallel community leadership will only lead to a repeat of the 1998 crisis that led to the burning down of the entire community.

The Area Commander, ACP Morh Ajoshe, thanked the youths for their peaceful disposition and assured them that their letter will be delivered to the Commissioner of Police.
