Constituent threatens recall of Kwara lawmaker over ‘poor’ performance
Some members of the Owode/ Onire constituency in Asa Local Government Area of Kwara State on Sunday in Ilorin threatened to recall its member, Hon Ambali Ibrahim, over poor representation and dereliction of legislative duties.
The threat was the outcome of what they described as a “crucial” meeting held in preparation for the commencement of the recall process against Hon. Ibrahim, who represents Owode/Onire at the Kwara State House of Assembly.
A communique jointly signed by 11 members of the constituent was issued highlighting their demands and ‘sins’ of the lawmaker.
Hon Ajidagba Mutiu, Comrade Olomigbona Hakeem, Usman Akopari, Abdulganiyu Salaudeen, Jambudo AbdulRasheed, Adisa Muritala, Dr. Ayinla Kuranga, AbdulAzeez Jimoh, Kazeem Muhammad, Fumilayo Obalowu and Mrs Taibat AbdulSalam endorsed the communique.
According to them, “While other constituencies are enjoying dividends of democracy because of their lawmakers who are unbridled advocate of their people, the reverse is the case in Owode/Onire.
“Since his inauguration in June 2019, we have been keen watchers of his conducts and performances which are rather characterized by the pursuit of personal gains; insensitivity to Constituents’ plight; lack of consultation, and poor communication with constituents,” they noted.
But Hon Ambali while speaking with Daily Trust on Sunday night on the development said his people were happy and satisfied with his representation.
“Did they say they are from Owode/Onire because those that elected me are very happy with my performance since my assumption of office.
“As the chairman of the House Committee on Budget, I am still in the office as I am talking to you now Sunday night working on budget proposal sent by the governor. I believe this is part of distraction and there is no room for that in this government,” he said.
