Referring to Kida as NBBF president an aberration — Ugboaja
A former Nigerian international, Ejike Ugboaja, has seen everything wrong with the sports Ministry’s continued reference to Engineer Musa Kida as the president of the Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF).
It will be recalled that shortly before the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, the Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports Development dissolved boards of the 37 sports federations including the NBBF and constituted care-taker committees which eventually presided over their events at the Olympics.
According to the former international, the decision to dissolve the board of the NBBF whose tenure had expired means that Kida is no longer the president of the sport federation.
It is against this background that the former international has vowed to return to his position as Players’ Representative.
“Since the Ministry decided to keep Engr
Musa Kida on the board as NBBF president, I’m still the players’ representative on the board because we were elected together at the same time even though it is not the right thing to do. The right thing to do is to conduct elections to elect a new president and board members for the federation because our four-year tenure has elapsed.
‘But since they are still referring to Kida as the president of the NBBF, like in the letter we saw on the social media, I’m still on the board too and I am resuming my job as players’ representative from today (yesterday) .
“I’m very disappointed with the Ministry for referring to Musa Kida as president of the NBBF because they ought to understand as intelligent and educated people that the position of NBBF presidency is not by appointment and since the election has not been held, why recognize someone whose tenure has since elapsed as president,” said Ugboaja
