School feeding: FG trains cooks on hygiene, others in Yobe
The Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development has organised a oneday training under the National Home Grown School Feeding Programme (NHGSFP) for food vendors across the 17 local government areas of Yobe State on hygiene, food procurement and menu standardization.
Addressing the dignitaries and participants during the training in Damaturu, the federal government team leaders to Yobe, Hajiya Salamatu Maidurimi, said a total of 34 food vendors and cooks were selected from the 17 local government areas of the state.
Maidurimi stated that the master cooks were selected for the training in order to enhance their food literacy among others for the effective implementation of the NHGSFP in the state and the country at large.
She said the trainers would organize a stepdown training to at least 20 people at their local government areas.
“The main aim of this training is to ensure and maintain a safe, hygienic environment as well as promoting kitchen portion control and financial literacy about the food cost, keeping record and anti corruption measures.”
Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni, represented by the permanent secretary of the state Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Alhaji Isa Bukar, commended the federal government for the training.
He noted that education remains the top priority of his administration.
Buni said his government would continue to partner and collaborate with the federal government on the NHGSFP for optimum results.
The Federal Government had in 2021 scaled-up the number of pupils benefiting under the National Home Grown School Feeding Programme (NHGSFP) in Yobe State from 20% at each local government to 100% across the state.
