Man charged for abduction, rape of minor in Ekiti
An Ekiti State magistrates’ court in Ado Ekiti has ordered the remand of a man, Sanfullahi Nasiru (25) for abducting and raping a 16-year-old girl.
The magistrate, Bankole Oluwasanmi, ordered the defendant to be remanded in Ado Ekit prison for 30 days.
Earlier, Insp Olubu Apata urged the court to remand the accused person for thirty days, to allow the police complete their investigation while the duplicate case file was being forwarded to office of the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP).
Insp Apata told the court that the accused was reasonably suspected to have committed the offenses of abduction and rape of a 16-year-old girl between Ekiti and Zamfara states between August, 2021, and January, 2022.
According to Insp Apata, in a statement to the police, the victim said the accused usually came to their shop to buy things, and that on that day, “I told him I had headache, he brought out a substance from his pocket and mixed it with soft drink, he asked me to drink it, and I drank it. “Shortly, I developed affection for him. Unknown to my parents, he took me to Zamfara State where I stayed for a while. My mother came to pick me where I was kept in a village in Zamfara State but he refused to release me. It took the intervention of a court in Zamfara before I was released, and he was warned not to come near my house or disturb me anymore.
“When he came back to Ado Ekiti, he came to our house again to threaten my mother, the matter was reported at the police station and he was later arrested.”
