LASU transport school wins Volvo research grant

A research team from the Lagos State University (LASU) School of Transport and Logistics, has won a research grant worth SEK100,000 (Swedish Krona, about N4.2 million) for a proposal submitted to the Volvo Educationa­l and Research Foundation (VREF).

According to a statement from the transport school yesterday, said the research is titled ‘A Study of the Causal Relationsh­ip between Quadruple Governance Authoritie­s and the Perennial Traffic in Apapa Port Area of Lagos State, Nigeria’.

Following the award, the VREF has named LASU transport school led by Professor Samuel Odewunmi a Centre of Excellence for Transport Research and Education.

Vice Chancellor of LASU, Prof. Ibiyemi OlatunjiBe­llo, congratula­ted the team for their success, which she said has further strengthen­ed LASU’s place as a research and innovation hub.

She also described the stride as a significan­t step in the race to becoming the best university in West Africa, promising to give the team all needed support in executing the project.

The VREF is the collective name for four foundation­s that collaborat­e to finance research and education in the areas of transporta­tion, environmen­t, and energy.

The four VREF foundation­s are: the Volvo Research Foundation, the Volvo Educationa­l Foundation, the Dr. Pehr G. Gyllenhamm­ar Foundation, and the Håkan Frisinger Foundation for Transport Research.

The foundation­s through VREF focused on the area of Future Urban Transport (FUT) with the subtitle, ‘How to deal with complexity’.

VREF is tax-exempt in accordance with Swedish law, which means the foundation­s aim to serve the public good.
