Risis brews as Abuja council converts Eid round to market, motor park
he Muslim community in Gwagwa, an Abuja suburb, has raised alarm that its more two- decade Eid ground has converted to a market and r park by the Abuja Municipal
Area Council (AMAC) with no provision for an alternative.
City & Crime reports that Muslims in the community observed their two raka’at prayers to mark the Eid el-Fitr yesterday at the site which now has commercial shops.
Speaking on the issue, the leader of the Imams in Gwagwa community, Malam Kasim Shuaib, said the AMAC Chairman, Abdullahi Adamu Candido, who is also from the community, had promised them another land as replacement following the decision to convert the land to a market and motor park.
Malam Kasim said, “But three years on he is yet to fulfil the promise, and as result we have concluded to continue observing our prayers at the site pending the relocation.’’
Effort to get the chairman’s response was not successful.
