Agents to challenge 15% NAC levy at National Assembly
Freight Forwarders have threatened to drag the finance minister and Nigeria Customs Management team before the National Assembly over the implementation of the 15 per cent levy on imported used vehicles.
The freight Forwarders grouse with the Finance Minister, Zainab Ahmed and the Comptroller General of the Service, Col. Hameed Ali (rtd) is over issues surrounding the 15% National Automotive Council (NAC) levy, which they claimed have now been smuggled into the customs valuation system as a levy.
The agents said they would pursue its implementation vigorously, immediately after the Sallah break at the National Assembly.
Acting National President of the Association of Nigerian Licensed Clearing Agents (ANLCA), Dr. Farinto Kayode, in his Ramadan message, said that members would engage members of the National Assembly on the need for them to know that government is not sensitive to the plight of the masses.
Dr Farinto states that for the service to have introduced a levy at a period when the economy is in comatose was an act of insensitivity on the part of the government.
He said freight Forwarders, across all divides, would also ensure that the federal ministry of finance is dragged before the people’s representatives on the matter, noting that the same issue would be brought before the Council for Regulating Freight Forwarders in Nigeria (CRFFN), as one of the first issues to be raised at the plenary which needs urgent national attention.
He said it is obvious that the NCS will be implementing the VIN VALUATION in the month of May, going by the news filtering around the industry, adding that as freight forwarders, they need to monitor the implementation noting that people who might not want the process to be successful may introduce things outside the agreement into the procedures.
