‘Why we are closing gender gap in ICT sector’
The founder of Women in Technology (Witech) Mrs. Opeoluwa Lesi has said her organisation is working hard to close the gap that exists between girls and boys in the ICT industry in order to create more employment opportunities for women and improve the country’s economy.
Lesi who spoke to Daily Trust in an interview said her group was teaching young girls and women to create and build technology using digital electronics and engineering and technologybased principles in order to give them financial autonomy.
“We are working to close the gender gap in technology. We are teaching young girls and women to create and build technology using digital electronics and engineering and technologybased principles”, Lesi, who is also the founder of Women’s Technology Employment Centre (CW-Tech), said.
According to her, since the inception of Witech in 2008, it had trained over 36,000 girls and women, empowering and equipping them with technology and engineering skills.”
