2023 presidency: Obasanjo, Ohanaeze leaders meet behind closed doors
Leaders of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, the apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation, yesterday met former President Olusegun Obasanjo behind closed doors in Abeokuta, Ogun State capital.
The President General of the organisation, Professor George
Obiozor, led about eight leaders of Ohanaeze into the meeting which took place at the board room of the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library (OOPL), Oke Mosan, Abeokuta.
The meeting which began at about 10am and lasted for about two hours was meant to push for the South East presidency come 2023, our correspondent gathered.
Obiozor, in a telephone interview with Daily Trust, said the Igbo leaders had a “wonderful session” with Obasanjo.
He also confirmed that the meeting centred on demand for power shift to the South East in 2023.
He said, “It was a wonderful visit. Definitely (it is about power shift), but I won’t tell you what our conversation was.
“But it was about power shift and definitely not just about power shift; it’s about the President of Nigeria coming from the South East. Full stop.”
Asked whether the leaders were able to secure Obasanjo’s commitment to the demand, he responded, “I told you full stop. Why should I discuss my conversation with you, or you don’t understand what full stop is anymore?” (Laughs).”
